codeit's 2023 year in review

 Welcome to codeit’s 2023 year in review.

Journey through 2023 with us, in this roundup of the main updates we’ve made to codeit to make coding even more efficient for Market Research professionals. 

Here are some of the things we’ve changed this year:

• New! themeit
  themeit uses generative AI technology and can autogenerate themes, autocode data and explore results through a visual user interface.  It helps you supercharge your verbatim coding process by providing the “Extract” and “Refine” steps of the codeit process. 
  
  
• New! codeframe builder
  Precursor and close cousin to themeit. The codeframe builder also uses GPT to extract themes and (optionally) autocode data, but from within the block coding user interface, for those more accustomed to a traditional coding workflow. It’s also capable of generating nets as part of the codeframe generation process.
  Like its cousin, it will also be getting further enhancements in 2024, so watch this space.
  
  Both themeit and the codeframe builder speed up coding by quickly getting you to a draft codeframe and coded data in one click.
  
  
• Updated: Machine Learning
  Our machine learning system has been upgraded and reworked to use the latest deep learning technology, following 2 years of internal research and development. Best suited for trackers or long-running studies, the codeit Machine Learning outperforms GPT (in terms of the autocoding it can do) as it’s trained on the specific nuances of your survey. The levels of autocoding accuracy and volume are now twice as good compared to the previous version.

• New! Coverage
  Next to each verbatim we can now display a number indicating how well the AI has “covered” each verbatim. This is a measure of how well the AI has captured all the themes within a verbatim with the codes it has auto applied. This is a huge boost to the “refine” stage in codeit, because it allows your human coders to zero in on the items that need attention/refinement, and ignore the ones the AI is confident about.
  
  
• New! Qualtrics Data Link
  Adding to our growing list of direct connections to survey platforms, we’ve now added a data link to the hugely popular Qualtrics survey platform.
  Like most of our data links it is bi-directional, meaning that we can read open-ended responses in and once coded can write the coded data back again to Qualtrics.
  
  
• Updated: Overhaul of Import Wizard
  It’s been given a smart new look.
  We’ve unified a few tools, so all imports go through the same import wizard.
  So, whether you’re importing survey data, translations or codeframes it all goes through the same import wizard.
  
  
• New! Collapse and Uncollapse
  If you’re coding looped data, grids or multiple brand mentions you will often want to collapse several columns of verbatims into one task. codeit has extensive support for collapsing columns when importing a file or linking to a survey system. However, sometimes you may miss an item or accidentally collapse an iteration that you shouldn’t have. To help with these scenarios, we’ve added a collapse and uncollapse tool. The collapse tool allows you to fold columns that you missed into a task. The uncollapse tool allows the opposite - to extract a column you mistakenly collapsed during import.
  
  
• New! Backup and Restore
  We have added tools that allow you to take a backup of a project at any time. We have also added a restore feature that allows you to restore a project from your chosen backup. This is ideal if you need to roll a project back to a specific point in time.

So what can you expect from codeit in 2024?

Our developers are always working to make codeit the number one survey coding software and value user feedback and requests. We have several exciting features planned for 2024 - here are some of the highlights scheduled for next year. 

• Codeframe Builder - v2.0
  This new version will use the same engine as “themeit” behind the scenes, meaning that the two tools will be unified to provide consistent experience between the two tools.
  We’re also adding better support for brand coding within both tools.
  
  
• themeit - v2.0
  This improved version of themeit will offer some great new features such as filtering by context variable, exporting to PowerPoint and nets.
  
  
• Alchemer Data Link
  In Q1 we will be adding to our list of supported survey platforms by adding a data link to the ever popular Alchemer platform.
